Guidance for Patient Access

Before using EMIS Patient Access please read the following guidance.

Your Responsibility

The practice will take every measure to ensure that your EMIS Patient Access application is secure.  It is for this reason that full registration for this service cannot be completed without you presenting at the surgery with your photo id.  It is your responsibility to ensure that your EMIS Patient Access account remains secure.

You are able to cancel or reset your EMIS Patient Access Account at any time by contacting the surgery in writing.  You may wish to do this if you think someone else knows your log in details, or if you have shared these details with a family member or partner and no longer wish them to know these details.  Please be assured that The Grange Surgery has a strict confidentiality policy.

Prescription Requests

EMIS Patient Access gives you the facility to send repeat medication requests to the surgery.  We require two working days to process requests.  When requesting your repeat medications please only select the items that you require.  Please note that if your medication use is too high, or if you request medication that is not due, your request may not be processed.  You need to check the status of your request by logging on to EMIS Patient Access.

Appointments

Booking an Appointment

In order that we can ensure that it is appropriate for you to see your GP rather than a nurse, please enter a reason for your appointment.  Sometimes it is better for you to see a nurse rather than your GP and due to the nature of nurse appointments these are not available to book online.

Cancelling Appointments

Please let us know if you are unable to attend an appointment that you have booked online.  You can contact us by telephone to cancel it, or you can cancel it by logging on to EMIS Patient Access.  If we have an up to date mobile telephone number for you then you will receive text reminders for your booked appointments.  You can also use this service to cancel your appointment.  Letting us know that you don’t need your appointment allows us to offer the appointment to someone else.

We realise that there are valid reasons for not attending however please be aware that we do monitor cancellations. 

Missing Appointments

If you miss an appointment without informing us, or cancel an appointment on the same day, more than twice in one year, we will remove your facility to use EMIS Patient Access.  You will be able to book appointments by calling the surgery.  We will consider, on request, reinstatement of this facility provided that you attend or cancel with reasonable notice all of your surgery booked appointments during the following 12 months.

Inappropriate Use of EMIS Patient Access

We monitor the use of this service and we are sure that you will find it useful.  Please note however that if we find abuse of this service, we will revoke your access. You will have to discuss any services you require with our reception team.

We would consider inappropriate use as; sending inappropriate or abusive messages, booking appointments and not attending, or cancelling on the same day, more than twice in one year, booking appointments for other family members using your name, using the repeat prescription request service to order other medication.
